Classifications
Youth (under 19): A rower or coxswain who does not attain the age of 19 during the current calendar year or who is continuously enrolled in a secondary school seeking a diploma. A Youth rower must be in high school.
Youth (under 16): A rower or coxswain who does not attain the age of 16 during the current calendar year or who is continuously enrolled in a secondary school seeking a diploma. A Youth rower must be in high school.
College: Events open to students enrolled full time in an undergraduate academic program at their institution.
College Novice: All college novice rowers shall be in their first year of rowing at the college level. Only novice college coxswains may cox college novice events. Previous experience in sculling will not count toward a sweep event, and previous experience in sweep rowing will not count toward a sculling event.
Open: No restrictions on age or experience.
Lightweight: Men – Maximum 165 pounds
Women – Maximum 135 pounds
Masters: Under 40 years inclusive as of the current calendar year, plus the USRA-approved “AA” Masters category for rowers aged 21-26 as of the current calendar year.
When there are enough (3 or more) entries masters will be grouped by USRowing age categories rather than the categories listed here. Handicapping information is provided below.
Senior masters: 40-59 years inclusive as of current calendar year
Veteran Masters: 60 years and older as of current calendar year
