LLRC Youth Program Overview
The Youth Rowing Program sponsored by LLRC provides an opportunity for young men and women in Gainesville and Hall County to experience the Olympic sport of rowing, enhance their fitness, learn the value of team work, and develop self-discipline and self-reliance.

The program provides recreational and competitive experiences regardless of athletic ability or experience.  Most members of the program have no previous rowing experience when they join LLRC. They come from all area public and private schools, but mainly the seven schools located closest to the boathouse on Clarks Bridge Road in north Hall County. Costs are very reasonable, and can be found on the registration form.

Participation and Teamwork
Several unique aspects of rowing are that there is an emphasis on participation and teamwork. Coaches develop crews with one, two, four, or nine members, so there will be a place for everyone.  Depending on the season of the year, races will range from 1000 meters (about 4 minutes) up to 5 kilometers (as much as 25 minutes). Once a race starts there are no time-outs or substitutions; everyone in a crew must work together to have their best performance.

Seasons of the year
Spring, summer, and fall are excellent times for rowing on Lake Lanier. New members are welcome to join the program at anytime, but the summer and fall provide the best opportunities for learning rowing in a comfortable, relaxed environment.  During the summer four week-long camps provide instruction in both sculling and sweep rowing.  The fall program starts after Labor Day and continues until mid-November.  During the winter phase the focus of land training is on the development of strength and rowing fitness. Beginning in late February the training focus shifts to the developing teams for the spring racing season.  For the last nine years the Youth Program has competed at regattas in Gainesville and across the southeast.

Scholarships
On interest to college bound students is the fact that many NCAA Division 1 rowing programs offer scholarships to women. As rowing continues to expand across the country even more of these opportunities will become available.

Cost
The amount due will vary depending on which season you are participating. Please see the downloadable forms for more information.
