Rower Development Program

To All Rowers:

The Lake Lanier Rowing Club (LLRC) is committed to promote the enjoyment of the sport of rowing. A way to accomplish this mission is by participating in the Rower Development Program. The program focuses on putting members together in a mentor/mentee partnering relationship for about one or two years. The effects can be a gain in invaluable rowing knowledge and an increased skill and performance level. All club members are invited to participate as either a mentor or mentee.

A mentor acts as a coach, teacher, guide, role model, counselor and sponsor who enters into a sustained relationship with a less experienced rower to promote their development. The mentor will help develop core competencies that include identifying the forms of rowing, types of boats and equipment, names and functions of rowing seats, types of races, rowing stroke, teamwork, club functions and meetings, regattas, and workout schedules. The intent is for the mentor to serve as a trusted rower who takes an ongoing interest in fostering and supporting the mentee's rowing development at LLRC. Mentors will transfer valuable skills and knowledge, one on one, to mentees.

If you are an experienced rower and you are motivated to help the progress of others, are willing to accept increased challenges, are positive, enthusiastic and committed, LLRC encourages you to become a mentor for a less experienced rower.

If you are a new rower who is self-motivated, interested in new experiences and possesses the desire to learn, you are likely to benefit from being a mentee. By taking an active role as a mentee, you will gain invaluable knowledge, experience and wisdom from a veteran rower. Being a mentee should help you to adapt to LLRC's mission and objectives. Having someone available you can trust, seek advice from and with whom you can discuss your goals and aspirations provides a good opportunity for you to excel in rowing.

The Rower Development Program is designed to provide the mentor/mentee the opportunity to develop a relationship naturally and according to the needs and desires of the two parties.

If you would like to participate, please contact the current Mentor Coordinator, Mary Jordan or contact the LLRC office at 770.287.0077 or llrc@mindspring.com.
